Life of a Shiba Owner

What’s it like owning a Shiba Inu.
“Shiba” means “brushwood” in Japanese, and “Inu” means “dog.”
As any dog owner knows, all dogs have their own personalities but with Shiba’s, oh man, they can have an attitude. These cat-like canines have been one of the best and entertaining dogs that I have ever had. On one occasion our Shiba, “Rin”, screamed for her entire doctor's appointment. They took her temperature and she let out this high pitched scream and everyone in the room was like, “oh my god.” My husband and I were laughing because we knew what was going on, but she never did that in public let alone the vet office staff.
It is important to understand their attitude…. My Goodness! Our Shiba, Rin, will get mad at my husband if he does not give her a pepperoni, she will glare at him and avoid him for hours; this also includes eggs. She will ignore you if she does not get the food you are eating. She will be mad at us if she doesn’t get a walk in during the weekend… very dramatic.
Shiba’s also have a funny sense of humor. Rin has such a big personality that she makes me laugh constantly. It turns into Shiba 500 around the house after a bath. She will run and launch herself onto the carpet face first to dry off. She plays with our toy lightsaber and growls, barks, and chases it. Like most Shiba's, she is agile and beautiful! When she is not shedding her entire weight of hair, she is very red and glistens in the sun. She will cuddle you so hard then will push you off the bed. Sometimes when she sleeps, she has little chopstick legs sticking up in the air. She will throw toys on or at you when she wants to play. She will lounge on her bed by the window to get some sun. She is adventurous and curious about the world and wants to sniff everything. Rin is brave as she will boop toads and other small creatures while wiggling her tail. The thing I love is, when I come home from a long day of work my airplane eared Shiba has the biggest smile on her face. It fills my heart with joy and love! She has been the best dog I have ever had, she listens and fills our life full of love and joy! This cat like creature may have its downs but oh man do they have their ups! Every night going to bed and getting to cuddle her makes my whole day melt away with calmness and happiness. She is the best dog ever and I wouldn’t trade her for the world.
